
It is great to protect the Mummy at Hyderabad, According to Mr. P. Chenna Reddy, the director of Archaeology and Museums- Hyderabad, the Egyptian experts are coming to restore the mummy following a request from the state government. He will study ways of restoring the mummy, believed to be of Nasihu, the daughter of the Pharaoh 1V of Egypt. She is believed to have been between 17 to 18 years when she died during her pregnancy time. This mummy is in museum since 1930. So the age of the Mummy is approx. 2500 years!!!! In Egypt it is a normal case but in India, this is a wonderful thing.
The length of this mummy is 1.4 mtrs and it is one of the six in Indian museums and the only one in south India. The departments of archaeology and the Museum of Andhra Pradesh have long been seeking foreign assistance to restore the mummy scientifically.
Tarek el Awady, director of Scientific Research in Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), arrived on 12th-Aug-09 night on a six-day visit to restore this mummy, dating back to 2500 BC, but which is showing signs of decay now. SCA is a part of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and responsible for the conservation, protection and regulation of all antiquities and archaeological excavations in Egypt. Mr. Tarek El Awady is the general supervisor of the Egyptian Museum, Cairo also.
The embalmed body, lying right now in an airtight enclosure, is fragmenting at the face, shoulders and around the feet. According to the museum officials, the linen bandage of the mummy will be replaced with scientifically treated cotton foam and the same time the materials used for it also changing.It believes that, this mummy was brought to Hyderabad by Nawab Nazeer Nawaz Jung, the Son-in-law of Mir Mahboob Ali Khan, 1v Nizam of Hyderabad, around 1920. Nawaz Jung had bought it for 1,000 pounds and gifted it to Mir Osman Ali Khan, v11 Nizam, who was donated it to the museum. The museum, located in the middle of the city. So it was known as Hyderabad Museum. But after the merger of Hyderabad state with India, was renamed as State Archaeological Museum.
